Newburyport, MA – The Newburyport Bank Charitable Foundation has donated $5,000 to the Portsmouth Historical Society to support its Community Programs. Community connection is at the heart of the work at the Portsmouth Historical Society. They fill each season with a wide variety of events designed to bring people together to learn, to reflect, to share, and to celebrate those who have made and continue to make Portsmouth a cultural landmark.
Founded in 1917, the Portsmouth Historical Society opened the John Paul Jones House as a museum in 1920. For more than a century, the organization has gathered a diverse collection that fulfills its mission to illustrate and understand the history and material life, broadly conceived, of Portsmouth and the immediate Seacoast area from the seventeenth century to the present.
“The historical significance of Portsmouth and understanding its connection to overall American history cannot be underestimated,’ said Newburyport Bank CEO Lloyd Hamm. “Fortunately, we have the Portsmouth Historical Society that keeps history alive, and connects with people, young and old alike, to give them a wonderful perspective on the past, and how it has shaped the present. The Society’s work is invaluable and we are most happy to support their efforts.”
